Preschool Discipline Policy
We strive to model Christian behavior in our actions and attitudes. We guide the children toward positive behavior with praise, love and hugs. It is our desire that the children will become more self disciplined and develop respect for one another. The children will be taught that God made each one of us special and unique. Positive character traits will also be taught.
Our school rules are:
- Love God
- Take good care of your friends
- Take good care of yourself
- Take good care of the school
To encourage positive behavior, each class will have a jar and the class will have the opportunity to fill the jar by displaying positive behavior. When it is full they will have a special treat such as pajama day, barefoot day, stickers or a special snack.
We will also have a colored card system. Each child will begin the day with 4 strips and ideally end with all four. The first step in our discipline procedure is to talk to the child about why their behavior is unacceptable and to redirect the child. If the behavior continues after the warning the child will have to pull their purple card. The child may be asked to move to another area in the room. If the behavior continues, the child will pull their green card and sit out during center or recess time for 3 - 5 minutes (depending on their age). If necessary, the yellow card would be pulled and the child would need to hold the teachers hand during part of recess. All children will also have an orange card. It will only be pulled for severe disrespect, physically harming another child or biting. The child will be sent to the director and parents will be informed. Biting is an example of unacceptable behavior. For the safety of the other children, if a child continues to bite, more than three times, they may be asked to leave the school. Severe discipline problems will require a meeting with the directors and parents.
